"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

So I may be moving to seattle or NY at the end of the month? Anyone know anyone that would be willing to house me for awhile in exchange for work around the house?

So I'm going through one of my infamous "purging stages."
I really just want to sell most of my stuff and drive off into the distance. Live on the streets somewhere. Work where I can when I want. Talk to people. Make friends. Make enemies. Stop worrying about money, food, shelter, personal appearance, friends, school, and all the other "necessities" of life.
Deep down though, I know this is just me trying to run away from myself, and the problem with this plan is that I will always be there.
I think my "love of travel" is actually just a vain hope that someday I'll go somewhere, and everything within me will change and there will be a new Devin there. That I'll be walking down the street and happen upon a stranger who has a nice smile, and we'll strike up a conversation wherein everything clicks and I suddenly have a full and meaningful life. I'll have real friends that call me, and a real lover that loves me, and every minute will be an enjoyable experience be it good or bad, because I'll be surrounded by people and times that I love.
Of course, none of this will ever happen, because the problem is, and always has been, me.
    I am my problem.
    No one else.
I can travel all I want, meet all the interesting people in the world, see every great wonder of the world, experience every fantastic moment life has to offer, and I will still be-

    Neither happy, nor surprised
God gave me a brutal wakeup call today.
    Solus Christus
My misanthropy is back with a vengeance after a short time of emotionally-driven living.
    Galatians 2:10
    1 Corinthian 7:8
Galatians 5:22-23 tells us that "self control" is a fruit of the spirit, and 1 Corinthian 7:9 tells us marriage is only for those who can not exhibit self control, therefore marriage is a sign of an immature Christian. If we truly find our worth in Christ, rather than substituting his perfect love with the faulty unsteady love of another human we will be far happier, and far more useful to God's purposes.
I'm sure I'll go back on this someday, but I have to always remember that it is a weakness and not a strength to "love" a woman in the manner of Eros.

So last night I was hanging out with my friend Tim and roommate Nick and the topic of girls came up (of course). Nick is a personal trainer/toolbag who's really into these "How to pick up any chick" things with that dude Mystery. So they start telling me all about how to properly talk to a girl at a bar, and that you're supposed to always talk to them as if you're on your way to something better, and you should make them think you're not at all interested in them because it'll drive them nuts, and just a bunch of crazy rules and guidelines.
But the over-arcing theme of the whole situation was summed up when Nick told me to "never make a girl feel good, because she'll lose interest in you immediately."
How did women let it get to the point that the only way to get a girl's interest is to treat her like garbage? And every girl says they want a guy that treats them nice or whatever, but I don't know anyone that really believes that nice guys get more girls than douchebags. Now granted, there is the idea that the only girls you get by being a douche are girls you wouldn't want to get with anyway, but I can't really support that fully. I know a LOT of nice girls that just wont give a guy the time of day unless he's a dick. I know it stems from "daddy issues" and the general love of a take-charge guy or whatever, but honestly... wtf?
I'm not personally bothered by it (mainly because I'm enough of a jerk to be ok) but i find it very sad that women not only live their lives in such a way, but that it's gotten so bad that men are actually STUDYING UP on how to be a jerk-off in the "most effective manner."
AdBusters this month had a fascinating article about how the male half of the human species is pretty much falling apart, and we have lower sperm counts, more damaged sperm, and generally less virility than our fathers did. The really interesting part of it for me though, was the fact that women had their "movement" many moons ago, and they reevaluated their place in society and the gender roles of males and females, but men have yet to do so in response. The fact is that if women now hold a different place in the life of the world, men must respond to this in order to truly find out who and what we are, and to successfully function in the current system.
It seems to me that men have decided to find new ways, to accomplish the same goals (i.e. being a douche is the "new" chivalry in that it gets you laid).
At what point will men truly step aside and find a place for themselves. 80% of the people laid off in the recent economic down-turn were men, which is in fact a negative side-effect of the inequality in pay for men in America. This means that there are a lot of men who aren't ABLE to fulfill their traditional role of the money-making-family-protecting alpha male. I'm holding out hope for these men to genuinely reassess their roles, and their ability to fulfill that role, but I don't know if it will happen.

"In affluent, industrialized nations, the birth of males has dropped every year for the past 30 years. Genital defects, learning disabilities, autism, ADD and a variety of other afflictions have all skyrocketed in males while remaining comparatively low in females. But perhaps the most telling indicator of the male plight comes down to that which is essentially synonymous with the pornographic: sperm. The average Gen Y bro has a sperm count that is 50 percent lower than his father’s and, of the few spermazoids he does have, 85 percent of them are genetically damaged. According to Dr. Fernando Marina, fertility expert at Barcelona’s CEFER Reproduction Institute, if this trend continues, all men will be infertile within 60 years." - AdBusters #83 "A New Aesthetic"

OK. so apparently i should find some words. here's the gist of things-

I'm really upset about the way "The church" has been acting recently. partly because of the whole prop 8 fiasco. the fact is YES i believe homosexuality is a sin. i know i know I'm a bad person, a bigot, whatever. but i think the half of that belief that most Christians seem to forget is SO IS SPEEDING. so is thinking i don't like someone. and if we're gonna get into sexual sins, i wont go into details but let's just say that by Jesus's standards i am a much "worse" person than most gay people i know. now that's not to say that being gay is OK. it's no more OK than cheating on your wife or killing a man, or the sins that I commit continually in my everyday life, BUT we are called to love.
    John 13:35
By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.

so when people drive down the streets and see "Christians" waving signs and hating on everything that could possibly be gay is that how people should think of Christ's disciples? no. no. no.
on top of that whole fact, and in my opinion ever MORE IMPORTANTLY- we are not called to impose our beliefs on people via laws and/or government. we do not live in a theocracy, or anything of the sort. now granted the concept of murder being wrong is a biblical precept so why should we impose that? because we are called to protect other people. if it affects someone outside of the "criminal" yes we should do our best to outlaw it. that is why i have such a strong stance against abortion. i don't consider it a choice, i consider it murder. irregardless of the circumstances. murder is always wrong, because it ends the life of someone outside of the person committing the act. homosexuality however does not affect me in any way. and making it illegal is not going to make anyone a good person.
now a lot of people (family included) argue that "our children shouldn't be taught gay marriage in schools"
    why not?
    Proverbs 22:6
Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.

YOU should be raising your children. YOU should be instilling morals into them, and dealing with the fact that there are different kinds of people in the world. and YOU should be teaching them that God loves everyone, and wants them to become saved from their sins. Just pretending that it doesn't exist does not help your children in anyway. It makes them weird overly-sheltered grown ups that can never fully function in a positive way in society.

Now for all the non-Christian people out there-
I'm very upset with the hate being slung at all Christians everywhere. I didn't vote yes on 8. I didn't put a sign in front my house. I actually tried to convince people to vote no, and yet I get lumped in with everyone. And you know what? I would be willing to venture a guess that a lot more people who attend church once a year, or have never had an actual relationship with God voted yes on 8 than people who actually take our beliefs for real, and study, read, and understand our stance on things.
    So stop hating Christians
    Hate people who hate.

    Back to “Christians”

    STOP TALKING BAD ABOUT OBAMA!
My goodness... I am SO sick of hearing people say he's the end of the world, and he'll be a bad leader, and he's a Muslim, and he's the resurrected 2nd coming of Malcolm X and all kinds of ignorant crap.

    Hebrews 13:17
17Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you.
    Romans 13:1-7
1 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. 4 For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. 5 Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake. 6 For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very thing. 7 Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.

    1 timothy 2:1-3
1I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— 2for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3This is good, and pleases God our Savior,

this is just the tip of the iceberg. There is NO excuse for talking badly about leaders. None. And when we were all hating on bush it was just as bad.
PRAY FOR OUR LEADERS. Pray pray pray. Pray for the president. Pray for the senate. Pray for everyone that is making big decisions in our country. Pray for the homosexuals in the world, your state, your city, and your neighborhood. Pray for healing for all the hearts that were wounded by driving down the street and seeing that everyone on their block didn't want children to learn that they existed. Pray for yourself that you could be a beacon of light and love to people who have been repeatedly wounded by “Christian beliefs”
    Sigh

I really really want to start a new religion that's based on the bible and just sort of start over. I'm so embarrassed to be associated with 98% of the “Christians” in the world.

I guess that's it for now. There's always a million more things but that's all I have the energy for right now.

    That's all.

i've always wanted to be quoted
loneliness is marked by being cold, and love is having someone to keep you warm.
That being said, I was very warm when I woke up, but the drive to work was freezing.
